Whenever I start a project or learn a new skill that I want to put into practice, I know exactly how I want things to turn out. The problem is that there is often a disconnect between what I see and hear in my head and what actually gets produced. This disconnect drives me crazy! I know it’s all part of the process of learning and developing new skills, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating.
We want to be great. And not great eventually after much work. We want the results now. We see the work we do and can always find someone else who does it just a bit better.
And that drives us mad.
While comparison often gets us into trouble because we’re comparing our full portfolio to another person’s highlight reel, we also don’t like admitting that it might take us awhile to be able to produce the things we want to be able to produce.
I think this video says it well:

I’m going to have to share this with my students!
